Frequently Asked Questions

What is ABA?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientific, evidence-based practice that is used to improve both developmental deficits and challenging behaviors in individuals with autism and related disabilities. The goal of ABA therapy is to focus on improving the quality of life for the individual and their family by addressing socially significant behaviors.

How do I know ABA is right for me?

ABA is recognized by the U.S. Surgeon General as the most effective treatment for autism. Beyond autism, ABA is also beneficial for individuals with a variety of other diagnoses, supporting improvements in emotional regulation, social skills, executive functioning, and anxiety management.

What is a BCBA?

Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
A BCBA is a healthcare professional with a master’s degree and national certification from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). BCBAs are responsible for designing, overseeing, and managing behavior analysis programs. They assess clients’ needs, develop treatment plans, track progress, and supervise other professionals, such as Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs), who implement the programs. BCBAs play a key role in helping individuals with various behavioral challenges, including those with autism and developmental delays.

What is a BCaBA?

Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA)
A Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) is a healthcare professional who holds a bachelor’s degree in behavior analysis or a related field, has completed a series of BACB-approved coursework, and has passed the certification exam through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). BCaBAs work under the supervision of a BCBA and assist in implementing behavior analysis programs. They may conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, and supervise Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) in their direct work with clients, while following the guidance of a BCBA.

What is a RBT?

Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)
An RBT has completed a 40-hour BACB-approved training program and obtained national certification. RBTs work directly with learners to implement therapeutic goals and interventions as outlined by the BCBA or BCaBA supervisor.

Assessments and Evaluations

We conduct a range of assessments tailored to each learner's unique needs. During our evaluation process, we carefully select the most appropriate assessments to identify areas of growth and guide the development of treatment goals. Additionally, we perform Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) to understand challenging behaviors and hypothesize their underlying functions. This information is used to create a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP), which outlines strategies to reduce maladaptive behaviors and promote positive outcomes. These assessments and evaluations can be completed independently or as part of the initial intake process of ABA therapy.
